Audi group generates first-half operating profit of €2.9 billion

  • Deliveries target of more than 1.4 million for 2012 confirmed

Ingolstadt, July 31, 2012 – €25.0 billion revenue, an operating profit of €2.9 billion, and an 11.5 per cent operating return on sales. These figures demonstrate how the Audi Group succeeded in adding yet another chapter to its success story in the first half of the year, despite weaker economic growth and the contraction of many car markets.

 

 

 

 

Axel Strotbek, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Finance and Organization, emphasized: “The high demand in the first half is a testament to the success of our model strategy.” The Company delivered 733,237 (2011: 652,892) vehicles of the Audi brand to customers, an increase of 12.3 per cent on the first six months of 2011. Demand was especially high for the new Audi Q3 as well as for the Q5, A6, A7 and A8 models.

 

 

 

 

The increase in deliveries pushed revenue up to €25,022 (21,526) million – a rise of 16.2 per cent on the previous year. The Audi Group increased its operating profit by 13.2 per cent to €2,876 (2,540) million. This was despite the stronger recessionary tendencies above all in southern EU countries. The operating return on sales of 11.5 (11.8) per cent was thus kept at the high level of recent quarters.

Following the healthy first-half business performance, the Audi Group plans to deliver a total of more than 1.4 million cars of the Audi brand in 2012 as a whole.

The Audi A1 Sportback, the Q3 and the new A3, which appears on the market in the late summer, will help Audi towards this goal and secure growing market shares in many sales markets.

The publication of the Interim Financial Report prompted CFO Strotbek to confirm another annual target of the Audi Group: “Provided the economic framework does not deteriorate further, we expect operating profit to remain on a par with 2011 despite higher expenses for new products, technologies and expanded production structures.”

HDD navigation for stress-free motoring

With the optional hard drive based (HDD) navigation system, being lost becomes a thing of the past. Simply enter a destination using the Multi Media Interface (MMI) in the centre console, or just say where you want to go, using the advanced voice recognition system.

The HDD navigation system has a 40GB hard drive meaning that maps load incredibly fast and there’s an abundance of detail (including 3D buildings in cities and photo realistic 3D landmarks) when you zoom in. You can also specify modifications to the route such as avoiding or using motorways, toll roads and ferries. And you can recall favourite and recent destinations which are stored in your address book.

The system can also adjust the route you’re taking dynamically based on the latest traffic situation. It receives RDS-TMC (Traffic Message Channel) automatically so it knows about hold-ups before you do and, if dynamic navigation is active, the system automatically recalculates the route.

Your own personal jukebox

If you choose the HDD-based Satellite Navigation system, you can also create your own personal jukebox. With 10GB of its hard drive set aside for music, you download via CDs, USB sticks or SD memory cards up to 4,000 music tracks.

Once installed, they can be controlled with the Multi Media Interface (MMI) or multifunction steering wheel (depending on the car’s equipment). Supported devices include USB memory sticks, portable hard discs, mobile phones, and Apple iPods – even portable cassette players.

And it’s not just the audio signal that’s transmitted. With compatible devices, detailed track information is displayed.

Bluetooth Interface

Bluetooth Interface, standard on SE and S line models is a Bluetooth connection for your mobile phone. This means that your phone can be operated using the multifunction steering wheel in conjunction with the Driver’s Information System, whilst remaining in your pocket.

In addition to standard hands-free functionality such as accepting/rejecting calls and hands-free communication, mobile phone preparation provides direct access to entries and phone numbers stored in the address book of compatible phones.

This innovative phone solution offers an unprecedented level of convenience, as it becomes possible to literally leave your phone ‘in your jacket pocket’ and still operate it using the car controls as outlined above. In effect, the mobile phone in your jacket pocket serves merely as a mobile SIM card reader. The phone calls are made using the car so mobile phone battery life is greatly increased and reception is improved as you are using the car’s antenna.

Crystal-clear digital radio reception

DAB digital radio not only brings phenomenal sound quality without interference but also a host of features to complement the listening experience. Alongside the audio, other data may be broadcast such as the title of the track and the name of the artist.

All available radio stations are displayed and are accessible via the MMI (Multi Media Interface) so you don’t need to spend time programming separate buttons. If you leave the range of a radio station’s DAB signal, the system will automatically switch to the analogue transmission.

Exceptional in-car entertainment

As an option, your Q7 can be equipped with a stunning rear-seat entertainment package for the pleasure of your passengers. New Audi Q3 model will be the raining champion

Latest TDI version of acclaimed compact SUV with weather-beating quattro drive is expected to be the most popular of all

  • New version of sought-after compact SUV will be the 250th quattro-equipped model variant available in the UK
  • Q3 2.0 TDI quattro 140PS now available priced from £26,510 OTR to £29,260 OTR - expected to account for up to 40% of total Q3 UK sales
  • 2.0-litre TDI engine delivers 140PS at 4,200rpm and 320Nm between 1,750 and 3,200rpm, 0-62mph in 9.9 seconds, 122mph top speed, combined MPG 49.6, CO2 149g/km

As the wettest summer on record continues to reinforce the arguments in favour of quattro all-wheel-drive, Audi has just launched its 250th model equipped with this invaluable all-weather traction aid - a new ‘entry level’ version of the sought-after Q3 compact SUV. The new Q3 2.0 TDI quattro 140PS is now available to order priced from £26,510 OTR, and is expected to account for up to 40 per cent of total Q3 sales.

The new model channels the 140PS and 320Nm of torque delivered by its 2.0-litre direct injection diesel engine through a six-speed manual gearbox to the rapid-reacting quattro system. Optimised by engine start-stop and recuperation technology, the highly efficient unit can return up to 49.6mpg according to the combined cycle test, equating to CO2 output of 149g/km. Equally importantly, it can take the Q3 to 62mph from rest in 9.9 seconds and push on to a 122mph top speed where conditions allow.

As usual, SE and S line specification levels are available, the former including 17-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, a Concert audio system with 6.5-inch manually retractable colour display screen, preparation for SD card navigation, Bluetooth interface, Audi Music Interface iPod connection and light and rain sensors.

For a premium of £2,750 S line specification adds larger 18-inch alloy wheels, S line exterior and interior styling enhancements, xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lamps and LED rear tail lights.

Options include ‘steerable beam’ adaptive light technology for the xenon plus headlights, a high-beam assistant to intelligently illuminate the road ahead, the hard drive-based navigation system plus with seven-inch colour screen and 3D mapping and the side assist blind spot warning and lane assist lane departure warning driver aids.

Inside the deceptively roomy Q3 there is seating for up to five adults, and an accommodating load bay offering up to 1,365 litres of capacity thanks to split/folding rear seats.

The Q3 is the most compact member of the Audi Q Series, which also includes the recently launched new generation Q5 and the seven-seat Q7 luxury SUV with its adaptive air suspension. If more car-like proportions are preferable, but a measure of extra agility is also needed, Audi can also offer rugged allroad quattro versions of the A4 and the A6. The reassurance of quattro all-wheel-drive can, however, be enjoyed across virtually the entire breadth of the Audi range, from the A3 hatchback through to the R8 super car. On average, quattro drive is the choice of around 30 per cent of Audi customers every year.

Audi range ranked the UK's most secure again

Three BICSA security awards and a third consecutive overall manufacturer award for the Vorsprung durch Technik brand.

  • Audi wins third overall Manufacturer Award in British Insurance Car Security Awards, presented by the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre, Thatcham on Wednesday June 18th
  • New A4 range voted most secure in compact executive class, S8 best in performance car class, TT Roadster best in Convertible/Roadster class 

For the third successive year Audi has stolen the show in the 2008 British Insurance Car Security Awards, not only scoring three category wins but also taking away the overall Manufacturer of the Year Award for the widest range of cars offering five star security.

The Vorsprung durch Technik brand’s commitment to anti-theft protection across its range was acknowledged by experts at a ceremony held on June 18th at the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre in Thatcham, Berkshire.

The top BICSA award goes to the manufacturer producing the widest range of models that satisfy stringent criteria laid down by Thatcham, including the achievement of a five star rating for ‘theft of’ security and a rating of at least four stars for ‘theft from’ security.

In addition to this all-encompassing award, Audi models were also voted best-in-class in 3 of the specific model categories assessed by the experts. The all-new A4 Saloon and Avant, S8 Saloon and TT Roadster models all outclassed rivals in their considered opinion.

Director of Audi UK Jeremy Hicks welcomed the very positive result for Audi: “I am delighted that the huge investment we have channelled into protective measures for all our cars has proved its worth yet again in Thatcham. To be acknowledged as number one for car security for a third consecutive year is an achievement which Audi AG’s security team can take considerable pride in,” he said.

Award-winning security protection is achieved right across the Audi range through features including Thatcham Category 1 alarm and immobiliser technology with interior ultrasonic protection, Thatcham Category 4 locking wheel bolts, anti-tow tilt sensors, visible Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) and extensive marked parts.

A1 e-tron

The Audi A1 e-tron’s headline figures of 148.7 mpg fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of only 45 g/km tell only half its story.

This design study is the latest in the ‘e-tron’ model family and, like the Frankfrurt and Detroit showcars it is electronically propelled.  With a range of more than 30 miles in city traffic and a peak power of 102PS the A1 e-tron is also fun to drive.

When the battery’s energy supply is exhausted, it is recharged by an exceptionally compact “range extender” consisting of a single-rotor Wankel engine and an electrical generator with a charge rating of up to 15 kW.  This device gives the A1 e-tron an additional range of over 120 miles.
